What's happening?
Renovation of The Alhambra, built in 1899, was announced by Olympia Development in 2017 as part of its large-scale plans for the District Detroit "neighborhoods" surrounding Little Caesars Arena, which came with nearly $400 million in taxpayer subsidies. (Olympia has reportedly invested $1.4 billion in the District.) Rehab work was initially scheduled to begin in 2018, with plans for 46 units and retail. An Olympia executive told BridgeDetroit in 2021 that they are committed to the area in the long term and would soon share potential plans with the public.
