The city of Detroit purchased the shuttered Rogell Golf Course in 2018 with plans to develop Rogell Park on 98 acres of natural land. The master plan was created in 2018 and the city conducted community engagement in 2020, as well as some initial improvements. 2020 plans called for building trails, bridges and sidewalks through the park and to connect it to adjacent neighborhoods; building a section of the Rouge Greenway through the park; and signage, plantings, overlooks and benches.
